A wave of impersonation fraud targeting residents in the Antella area of Florence and Bagno a Ripoli has been reported. Criminals are posing as officers of the Municipal Police (Polizia Municipale di Firenze) to commit burglaries. Multiple residents in the same geographic area have been targeted using nearly identical methods.

How the Scam Works

Stage One: Impersonation Call Scammers contact residents by telephone, claiming to be municipal police officers. They state that a vehicle registration (license plate) in the victim's name has been cloned or illegally duplicated, and an official verification is required.

Stage Two: Summons to Police Station The victim is instructed to appear at a specific police station for investigation. In documented cases, the Central Area headquarters was selected—notably a pedestrian-only zone—deliberately chosen to maximize travel time and distance from the victim's home.

Stage Three: Home Burglary While the victim is away at the police station, accomplices break into the residence and steal valuables. In some cases, scammers had previously visited the victim's address to confirm occupancy before executing the burglary.
