How the Scam Works

In this Corato case, three perpetrators employed sophisticated social engineering tactics. They rang the intercom claiming to be a family member with intimate familiarity ("Aunt, it's me, open the door"), and once admitted, behaved naturally with gestures like hugs to maintain the deception. After entering the home, two scammers kept the elderly couple occupied on the balcony while the third systematically searched the bedroom for valuables and cash.

Warning Signs and Red Flags
