Fake Investment Platform Scams Target Residents in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Multiple fraud cases involving the fake investment platform "RoboBroker" have been reported in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Victims were lured with promises of high returns, only to face withdrawal restrictions and demands for tax payments and overseas transfers. The platform has been blacklisted by financial regulators in Spain and Belgium.

How the Scam Works

The fraudulent investment platform "RoboBroker" or "RoboBroket Global Markets Ltd" employs the following tactics to attract and deceive victims.

Recruitment Phase

  • Advertisement posts on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook
  • Impersonation of bank representatives or financial advisors via telephone calls
  • Presentation as a "legitimate and professional" service offering investments in cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum), stock indices, and other financial instruments

Fund Accumulation

  • Initial investment demand of approximately 5,000 USD
  • Multiple individuals posing as specialists provide "trading guidance" via the platform, WhatsApp, and phone calls
  • Small withdrawals of approximately 4,000 USD are permitted during the first months to establish credibility
  • Victims are persuaded to deposit additional funds with claims that "more capital is needed to withstand market downturns"
  • The platform displays artificially inflated account balances (e.g., 200,000 USD total balance from 35,000 USD invested)

Withdrawal Blocking and Escalation

  • Withdrawal requests are not approved and left unprocessed for weeks
  • Fraudsters then cite "overseas tax declarations, financial reports, and tax payments" as requirements
  • They invoke "security reasons" and threats of "money laundering violations" to extort additional payments (e.g., 23,500 USD)
  • Refusal to pay results in threats to "suspend, restrict, or block" the account

Warning Signs

  • Unrealistic Return Promises: Legitimate low-risk investments typically yield 4-8% annually. Monthly returns of 15-20% are a major red flag for fraud
  • Counterfeit Websites: Legitimate investment platforms are registered with financial authorities. Verify registration on the Argentine National Securities Commission (CNV) official website
  • AI-Generated Endorsements: Celebrity or familiar faces in promotional content may be artificially created using AI technology
  • Initial Small Withdrawal Permission: Scammers build trust through small payouts before demanding larger investments
  • Foreign Operators: Accented speech, overseas-registered domains, and international contact methods often indicate foreign-based operations

Prevention Tips

  1. Verify Regulatory Registration: Before investing, confirm that the platform is registered with the Argentine National Securities Commission (CNV) through their official website

  2. Use Licensed Financial Advisors: Only invest through licensed financial advisors or registered securities firms (sociedad de bolsa)

  3. Question Unexplained Withdrawal Restrictions: Legitimate platforms do not restrict withdrawals without valid reasons. Delays or refusals should trigger immediate suspicion

  4. Refuse Additional Payment Demands: Requests for extra payments under pretexts such as tax procedures or "security fees" are classic scam indicators

  5. Seek Multiple Professional Opinions: Consult trusted experts and family members before making investment decisions

Reporting and Support

  • Argentine National Securities Commission (CNV): Report fraudulent platforms through their official website
  • Local Prosecution Offices (UFIJ): File criminal complaints when fraud is confirmed
  • Legal Counsel: Consult an attorney immediately if fraud is suspected

International Warnings

The Spanish National Securities Commission (CNMV) and the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) have listed RoboBroker on their blacklists of fraudulent platforms, warning against the use of counterfeit domains and false profit promises.
